What Is A Rhinoplasty?
Rhinoplasty is one of the most complex yet popular cosmetic and functional surgeries in the aesthetic industry. Due to the centric nature of the nose among other facial features and the intricate nature of the bone, cartilage, and skin, nose reshaping requires the unparalleled expertise of a well-trained plastic surgeon. The aesthetic goals must also coordinate with the functionality of the nose itself.
Rhinoplasty can change the shape of the nose’s tip or bridge, reduce or increase the size of the nose, narrow the size of the nostrils, or alter the space and angle between the nose and the upper lip. The goal of a rhinoplasty procedure is to improve the appearance of the nose and make it harmonize with your other facial features.
What Concerns Can a Los Angeles Rhinoplasty Address?
Whether you feel your nose is too large, wide, asymmetrical, or unattractive, rhinoplasty can improve its appearance. This procedure aims to enhance the contours of the nose and make it more proportionate with your other facial features, producing a harmonious and attractive facial aesthetic. Achieving a balanced facial appearance can elevate your self-confidence and improve your overall quality of life.

What Are the Different Types of Rhinoplasty Techniques?
Every facelift procedure begins with a comprehensive facial assessment performed by Dr. Lee. During this assessment, our goal is to understand the patient’s specific aesthetic desires and determine candidacy for surgery based on the patient’s goals, anatomy, and medical history. Dr. Lee places utmost importance on patient safety, and the patient’s medical history will also be explored in depth to ensure they’re a safe candidate for surgery.
Closed
A closed or preservation rhinoplasty is recommended for most patients who aren’t in need of extensive revision or work on the nasal tip.
> Incisions are placed within the nostrils
> Alterations are made without widely lifting the nose skin
> Provides limited access to the underlying nasal structures
> Results in no visible scarring
> Quicker and more efficient recovery
Preservation Rhinoplasty
An open preservation rhinoplasty is recommended for patients who aren’t in need of extensive revision or work on the nasal tip.
> Alterations are made with the preservation of various nasal skin attachments
> Good for mild to moderate dorsal hump
> Quicker, faster, and more efficient recovery
Open structural rhinoplasty
An open Rhinoplasty requires extensive alterations to the nasal type.
> Involves creating an incision on the underside of the nose between the nostrils
> Tissues are lifted to allow optimal access to the underlying nasal structures
Revision rhinoplasty
A revision rhinoplasty is designed to correct the results of a previous rhinoplasty procedure. Depending on the desired corrections, it generally requires utilizing the open rhinoplasty technique and may require cartilage grafts from the ears, ribs, septum, or cadaveric donors.

What To Expect From A Los Angeles Rhinoplasty With Dr. Gene K. Lee
Dr. Lee will begin your consultation by listening to your concerns surrounding the appearance and function of your nose, pinpointing the issues you are looking to resolve, and determining your desired results. The consultation process is paramount to establishing your goals and customizing your surgery according to your specific expectations.
Dr. Lee will then conduct a thorough examination of your nose, both inside and out, to better understand your unique nasal anatomy and intricacies and determine which technique will work best to achieve your desired changes.
You and Dr. Lee will work together to outline your treatment using Dr. Lee’s professional recommendations and your desired goals. He’ll ensure you understand the details of your surgery and what you can expect from your final outcome.
Recovery After a Rhinoplasty in Los Angeles
Immediately after your rhinoplasty procedure, surgical splints and a dressing will be applied to support and protect the nose. Dr. Lee will prescribe pain medication to ease any post-operative discomfort and provide you with a list of aftercare instructions, including how to care for your incisions, wash your face with the nose cast, and go over all other recovery protocols.
After surgery, Dr. Lee will carefully clean your nose and remove your surgical splints and any external incisions. By this time, much of the swelling and bruising will have begun to fade, and most patients can return to work and light physical activities.
After two to three weeks, most of the bruising and swelling from surgery will have subsided. Patients may resume their normal activities at this point; however, strenuous activities and heavy lifting should be avoided.
Results will be more apparent at the 3–6-month mark of your rhinoplasty recovery, and once Dr. Lee has cleared you, you may resume all normal activities. To ensure optimal results and avoid complications, you must refrain from blowing your nose until Dr. Lee permits it.
